One of the reasons why many people forget to buy travel insurance is because it can be such a chore. Add to the the fact that you are never going to be hurt or have anything bad happen to you, are you? When we book a holiday we are invariably in an upbeat mood and the last thing on our mind is boring insurance.

Many people now are choosing to purchase their travel insurance once a year just as if it was household or car insurance. A single premium means you can get yourself and your family insured for any trips you make in a twelve month period.

Below you will find a few commonly asked questions about buying annual, or yearly travel.

Q: I only take a couple of trips in a year. Is it going to be worth my while?

A: For two short trips to Europe you will probably be better off buying 2 single trip insurance policies but if you are going skiing, travelling outside Europe, or are likely to be going away any more than twice in a year then do look at Annual Travel Insurance. You will probably be suprised at how much you can save!

Q: What is the longest time I can spend away?

A: Travel Insurance Direct offer four options for you to chose depending on the type of traveller you are. If, like most of us, you never go away for more that three weeks in a year, then their standard annual travel insurance policy is allows for trips of up to 24 days each. For those with a bit more time on their hands (lucky folks) then there are also 31 day, 45 day, and 60 day per trip options.

Q: What about winter sports?

A: One of the options you can invariably choose with annual travel insurance is whether to add winter sports cover onto the policy. Typically this will give you up to twenty four days worth of insurance over the year for skiing or snowboarding to cover risks such as medical expenses for injuries sustained on the slopes and getting to hospital by helicopter if that is required. The difference in price with or without this cover is likely to be relatively low when compared to a single trip ski insurance policy.

Q: Can a family group travel independently and still be insured?

A: Definitely Yes! In fact, in the last few years Travel Insurance Direct have even allowed children to be insured when travelling without their parents, even when they are insured free of charge. Very generous!

Q: So children are insured free then?

A: Absolutely. Provided they are dependants of the policy holder and are under the age of 18 at the time the policy starts then Travel Insurance Direct will insure them free of charge.

Q: What other options are commonly available?

A: The Business Cover option is becoming increasingly popular. This works in exactly the same way as the standard Annual Travel Insurance but additionally covers business equipment including computers and communication devices such as mobile phones. As leisure travel is still included (in fact you could go on a business trip with the standard Annual Insurance and still be covered expect for the business equipment.) it makes this a great employee incentive for bosses to give their workers.
